Gustave Eiffel did not only manage to build the Eiffel Tower, but he also did his part in designing the Statue of Liberty. These iconic buildings have left their mark on the history of architecture, and will surely continue to do so in the future. These symbols of allure and grandeur are not only the pride of their country, but the world. Although later in his life Gustave Eiffel became one of the greatest engineers the world has ever seen, he himself wasn’t fond of his early school years, he was hardly motivated to do anything, for him it was ‘boring and a waste of time’, yet his teachers of history and literature imbued him with a sense of purpose and gave him the energy to take on his future studies with dedication, which led him to finish his baccalauréat with which he then entered the École Centrale des Arts et Manufactures, one of the most prestigious schools of France at his time. After this step in his life he embarked on a journey where he would be part of building some of the most memorable buildings and bridges. From him we learn that school might feel boring or a waste of time, but the power of education should not be underestimated, on the contrary, it is the that from which the world of humanity benefits, it is the path to liberty.
